The Umbrella (Daisy)
The Umbrella (Daisy) is an oil painting Mac created in 2001, following the attack on the World Trade Center, and as a reflection on human nature. An early inspiration for this painting was Mac’s appreciation of the art of Belgian surrealist, Rene Magritte.

The idea for The Umbrella (Daisy) came to Mac in a dream, which provoked thoughts of fear and security (“real and imagined”), and “the tools we use to travel physically, spiritually, and intellectually,” says Mac. “For some, this painting is a lifeline. To me, it is a hidden sanctuary but also a warning. Honestly, the way I feel about it changes all the time – that’s usually the point where I start loving the piece.”
