ABOUT PLAYDRIFT
This “Playdrift” piece is one from a series of nine original graphite illustrations on paper created by John Cabrera. “Each drawing began as a still life combining my own office tools and toys with those of my four-year-old daughter,” says John.
The title “Playdrift” captures both the subject and the process: play as creation, and drift as gradual distortion. Each original was followed by eight trace-rendered reproductions, completed faster each time–from two hours down to eight minutes. With every generation, precision gave way to gesture, and form dissolved, like a rigorous printmaking exercise where time and repetition erode the image to its essence.
