Textures in Time
Textures in Time is an exhibition at Stewarts Caring Place showcasing artists Andre and Da’Shika Street, whose work is dedicated to natural wonder, environmental appreciation, and artistic excellence. Through their artistry, we explore the interconnectedness of nature, humanity, and the potential for multi-sensory experiences to ignite healing and self-discovery.
Art x Love curated and developed all of the marketing materials for Textures in Time. As part of the exhibit, we also led collage workshops with Stewart’s staff and community members. 100% of the proceeds from all sales in this exhibition went directly to the artists.
Da’Shika Street - Artist Statement
I am an Akron, Ohio-born, Hanu, Germany-raised creative empowered by the Creator. My faith, heritage, and worldview are translated through my artistic explorations. I’m inspired by the world around me and the idea of making old things new. As a mixed media artist, I’m moved by the infusion of textures and the imperfections of shapes and concepts. My expressions often echo imperfect movement, unfinished thoughts, and the voice of the spirit within me.
This body of work, entitled Loud Thoughts in Quiet Places is a collection of moments, thoughts, and feelings derived from a period of peace and surrender. I cannot pinpoint where these depictions began, or if they’ve come to an end. Perhaps it’s an embodiment of the collective quiet places experienced from my beginning until now.
Please see these works as an invitation to search your quiet places and bring forth that which speaks loudest.
Andre Street - Artist Statement
This series works as a collection of pieces ranging from my postgraduate show until today. The Lord created this world in six days and rested on the seventh, while what I’m showing today is a selection of pieces that’s taken me over twenty years of work to catalog and remains desperately incomplete.
In past series of work, I would create an anchor piece starting with a personal, socio, or emotional thought/theory to be worked through. Art and the pieces created became the research as I searched for answers that only God can answer. I would cap each series of paintings with a resolve, which inherently always leads back to God in His sovereignty. Some of these pieces and others are featured in this exposition.
This series of pieces, although over a twenty year span, showcase my attempt to interpret the omnipresent nature in how it was expressed through God the Father in the days of creation. Separating light from dark, creating light, defining time itself, reality, and space. All the creation of this earch in the complex web that integrates all purposed and the stewardship of this time and place that belongs to us now.
