RTC @ REACH Opportunity Center

Rebranding the City (RTC) is a traveling theater production Art x Love produced as part of it’s 2017-2018 @PLAY Akron project. Our free Summit Lake performance was originally scheduled to take place at Open M Park but had to be moved to the REACH Opportunity Center because of inclement weather. Nevertheless, it was wonderful to see such an eclectic mix of residents and neighborhood stakeholders come out for the performance.

Katie Beck (Gum-Dip Theatre) and Josy Jones (Chameleon Village) led writing and development of the production, conducting dozens of interviews with residents from all parts of Akron. The theatrical production was intentionally designed to be highly mobile and bespoke to each audience and venue. 90% of the dialogue in the play came as verbatim interview statements from Akron residents, and was organized around 11 vignettes that could be staged as 30 minute, 45 minute, or 60 minute performances.
