Girls on the Run - Open M Park
As part of our 2017-2018 @PLAY Akron project, we partnered with Girls on the Run to help complete the transformation of Open M Park. Girls on the Run is an Akron area non-profit that inspires participants “to recognize their inner strength, increase their level of physical activity, imagine their possibilities, and confidently stand up for themselves and others.”
The Girls on the Run team painted the concrete slabs of the court-side seats at Open M Park’s basketball court. One slab was painted in shades of pink, purple, and blue. The other slab was painted in green, purple, and blue. While the first coat of concrete stain tried, the team toured and tested the newly built @PLAY Akron Parcours Trail in the park.
The Girls on the Run team were outstanding creative partners who asked excellent questions, never complained despite the cold conditions, and supported one another throughout the project. They truly lived up to their mission, and it was a delight to see them embrace the challenge, and play an integral role in revitalizing this historic park in Akron’s Summit Lake neighborhood. Several of the young team members were also neighborhood residents, making this opportunity and impact even more meaningful for all.
