Contemplative Drumm

As part of Akron Roundtable’s 50th Season program, Leandra Drumm was invited to speak about her family’s remarkable career in the arts. Leandra’s father, Don Drumm, is an internationally renowned artist and sculptor. He also designed Akron Roundtable’s signature Contemplative Sun metalware gift, which had been given to Akron Roundtable’s signature speakers for 50 years. It would have been odd to give Leandra a gift of her family’s own artwork, so Mac volunteered to create a signature gift in honor of their family for the occasion.

Mac painted Think Like the Sun using acrylic and ink with holographic paper collage on masonite. The painting is nested in a vintage oval frame, and is designed with shapes and colors that shift with changes in light and perspective. Mac used Don’s sun design as a starting point, and drew inspiration from his great aunt’s newspaper logo (St. Thomas This Week) and his father’s writings on international marketing and communications (Think Like the Sun).

Think Like the Sun was gifted to Leandra Drumm at Akron Roundtable’s luncheon on October 14, 2027. The gift was sponsored by Gardens Wealth Management and presented to Leandra by Michael Batu.

For Mac, this painting represents a special arc and full circle moment. Don Drumm Studios & Gallery was the first business Mac visited in Akron, and he has since had the pleasure of chatting with Don several times since 2013. The Drumm family’s contributions to our arts and culture landscape extend far beyond Akron, and have helped served as foundation for our business to grow, to innovate, and to champion new opportunities for artists and communities everywhere.

Mac is obviously very proud to have been able to create this gift for the Drumm family, and has already been commissioned to make another just like it. If you’d like one, please let us know.
