Carson’s Canyon

Stewart’s Caring Place’s library is named “Carson’s Corner” in honor of Carson Higgins, who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 3. After being told he would likely not live 30 days, Carson survived for 8 years and blessed his family and all of those around him with amazing acts of kindness, love, and generosity. Carson loved to read, had a great sense of humor, and cherished the great outdoors.

As part of our redesign of Carson’s Corner in 2023, we created a collaborative mural with Carson's family and the Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio. This painting of the Grand Canyon comes from the aerial photo Carson’s family took on his final return home, shortly after he passed away on one of his beloved trips to the America’s national parks. Hidden across the landscape are creative visions, angels, books, memories, and messages of love to encourage others with a generous spirit.

Carson was a leader and always wanting to “pay it forward.” Whether giving his presents to other children, or wanting to buy a family dinner, Carson always thought of others first. It is in this spirit of giving back that the Carson Strong Foundation was created. Carson’s Canyon honors his spirit and journey as a collaborative celebration of faith, hope, love, strength and kindness.
