Allan Lunda

About the artist

Allan Lunda is an Army veteran and self-taught portrait artist who who was born, raised, and has been living in Akron (OH) since 1948. His father is Edward R. Lunda, the famous Tuskegee Airman and Congressional Gold Medal winner.

Allan was introduced to ceramic pottery when he was 43 years-old and loved it instantly. His desire was to do historic figures – people in pottery. These days, he mostly likes to paint portraits with acrylic and water-mixable oil paint.

“To me, exceptional portraiture is all about perspective. I like to paint figures that stand out against the setting with focal points that draw your attention to certain things that are the essence of the person.”

@PLAY Akron - Collaborative Murals

In 2018, Art x Love engaged Allan Lunda to complete several @PLAY Akron collaborative murals that were designed by Mac Love and painted by thousands of residents at community events across the city. Allan was directed to preserve the community’s marks while honoring the integrity of the original image. Allan took this task to heart and excelled at. The 6 murals Allan finished were installed across Summit County in 2018-2019, and remain beloved local landmarks that are seen by millions of people a year and honor the rich history and culture of the area.
