Wallhaven Art Fest
Art x Love was engaged by the City of Akron to produce a collaborative mural for 2018’s Akron Arts Festival in Hardesty Park. We built a double-sided 8 ft. x 16 ft. wall that generated 10 modular murals in 2 days. The mural panels were so successful that we had to create an entire second set of the them for the second day of the event!
In addition to this, Art x Love produced plein-air outdoor painting and drawing events for the City of Akron’s Concerts in the Park series that summer. Residents were invited to grab a canvas, brush, and paint and create their own works of art while listening to live music in the park.
Hundreds of Akron residents were engaged and contributed to these two initiatives, making their mark on these temporary art pieces, all of which have been proudly displayed across the city since 2018.
This was part of Art x Love’s @PLAY Akron project, a 2017-2018 Knight Cities Challenge grant initiative. Art x Love’s team explored every street in the City of Akron, conducted thousands of resident interviews, and produced more than 100 murals and 50 placemaking transformations in 18 months.
