Serein II

In 2021, Mac revisited the Serein series of paintings he explored in 2005 for a special family exhibition back in Stonington, Connecticut. This new series of mixed media paintings featured notes and excerpts from Mac’s college thesis paired with expressions and phrasing from his collaborative community projects in Ohio.

These paintings serve both as a reflection into Mac’s early studies of the health of art, and as a mirror to the underlying challenges he has found in our communities today. The juxtaposition of early inspiration, lived experience, and the language models that shape our worlds serve as a an opportunity to challenge and expand our understanding.

“Each one of these paintings is like a tiny revelation to me,” says Mac. “The most beautiful thing about them is that I find so many new things to hold on to and think about each time I come back to them.”
